A few of you have returned to the beach since Hurricane Ian devastated the island.
The beach accesses have been closed for the protection of the public and the
protection of the property owners and their belongings that have not been able to
be secured due to damage.
Although there is a 7 PM to 7 AM curfew, limiting access to the island to property
owners only during that time, there have been people on the beach accesses during the day and night. They have even been caught out on the beach and on private property at all hours of the night. They have been caught driving on the beach, parking in private driveways and trespassing on private property.
Please protect yourself and everyone who owns property on the island by calling 911 and reporting any activity on the closed accesses, etc. If you see anyone on the beach accesses or strange activity on private property that you know is vacant, just make a call to 911. They will be able to contact one of the deputies stationed on the island and the situation can be handled quickly.
We don't know how much longer we will have such great protection present on our island. As long as we have it, don't hesitate to utilize it. That is why they are here. The county has anticipated such problems and are trying to limit as best they can but they need your help.
